Money down the toilet: Moment Colorado contractor DESTROYS new bathroom with a sledgehammer after client refused to pay

A crazed Colorado contractor took a sledgehammer to the tiles and walls of a bathroom he had just finished remodeling because of a $4K payment dispute with the homeowner, a video shot by the client's neighbor shows.

Terry Gregory of Dream Home Remodels can be seen swinging the giant sledgehammer, knocking the new tiling and installations from the shower's walls, while bellowing between bouts of demolition.

'We put weeks into this, thousands of dollars into this,' Gregory raged over the lack of final payment by Amber Trucke of Colorado Springs.

Trucke's neighbor asks Gregory repeatedly to cut it out: 'I'm just asking you to stop - this is not your house to destroy.'

'Is somebody going to pay me,' Gregory yelled back before he resumes the destruction.

'Let me tell you something,' he said to the neighbor, out of breath and gesturing with a sawzall, before he and his wife and business partner Jordan Cazares leave the house. 'No contractor in the state of Colorado will fix that when they found out I took it back because you refused to pay me. No one.’

Trucke said she paid the two contractors $3,330 of an owed $7,555, according to invoices she posted to her Facebook account.

Cazares sent Trucke a Facebook Pay request for the remainder on Friday morning, according to conversations with Trucke posted on Facebook.

She told the homeowner that she had until that evening to pay up.

Initially, Trucke asked to return from work, see the finished product, get receipts proving that the contractors had ordered a yet-uninstalled shower door and ensure that water would flow properly through the newly-installed plumbing before paying.

Around 9.30 am on Saturday, 23 hours after the contractor demanded payment, Cazares and Gregory came back to Trucke's apartment while she was at work, demolition equipment in hand.

'That's it. 23 hours,' Trucke wrote on Facebook. [Because] I didn't pay in 23 hours (there is NO statement from me in writing or otherwise to them that I wasn't going to pay) they showed up like thugs and destroyed my property.'

Gregory can be seen flashing a middle finger to Trucke's doorbell camera as he walks up her driveway.

The unidentified neighbor rushed to the house and began filming after she saw the contractors' truck pull up asked the pair whether Trucke was expecting anyone.

'This is my property, I have receipts for everything,' Gregory said.

‘That’s not taking back your stuff, that's...' the neighbor trails off, rendered speechless.

'It is our stuff, this is how we need to take it back because we solidly built it construction unfortunately so it won’t just fall off,' replies Cazares.

Gregory takes a break from the demolition to lean up against the doorframe and address the neighbor.

‘I’m more than happy to deal with the place,' he said

'More than happy. More than happy. More than happy,' he muttered.

Since the footage circulated online, Dream Homes Remodeling of Colorado has taken down its Facebook page and website.

Cazares took to Facebook to write about the incident, too.

'A customer we have worked for for over 2 weeks refused payment. We did an entire bathroom remodel, chased down plumbing issues and fixed them, crawled through an asbestos-filled attic and wired ceiling fans and more for her,' she wrote.

'When she made it clear she was refusing to pay, we tore our work out. Not even all of it. Just the shower. She still has thousands of dollars worth of my and Terry's work in her home that is unpaid for.'

Cazares told DailyMail.com that a contract has never 'gone so sour' before and that she and Gregory 'don't plan to make it a practice.'

'At the end of a bathroom renovation and several other home improvement projects, communication between our company and Ms. Trucke broke down,' Cazares said.

'She said she wanted to look at the work before she paid, at which point I said that she absolutely can do that,' Cazares said. 'I needed to know of issues to fix, or have payment by the end of the day.'

Cazares told DailyMail.com that 'even with removing the shower from her invoice she actually still owes almost $2,000 for completed work that is still in her home.'

This includes, Cazares said, a vanity, mirror, light fixture, 2 ceiling fans, plumbing work, fixing rotten framing in her walls and an exterior door replacement. Trucke insists she paid for those items.

The contractors had previously fixed two ceiling fans and the back door of the home, according to Facebook messages between Cazares and Trucke.

Trucke said she was unhappy with the sloppy remodeling job, and that she wanted to make sure water would run properly through the new fixtures - because grout and adhesives were still drying, it would take a day or so to test them out.

Cazares refused to show Trucke a receipt for the shower components, writing that until Trucke paid for them: 'receipts are mine for my business purposes.'

Trucke then detailed a laundry list of elements in the remodel that she felt were sloppily done to the contractor, and pointed out that the job took two weeks as opposed to the agreed-upon four days.

‘Jordan, you got paint all over the ceiling, I’ve been scraping grout off my counters and sinks for weeks, you left holes in my door frame,’ Trucke wrote in the message.

However, Cazares told DailyMail.com that she and Gregory had fixed the offending window, and provided a pictures in which the window is closed and open after the remodel.

For over $6,000, she said, she 'deserve[d] to be happy' with the job, and wanted to examine it herself before paying the remaining sum.

'We will leave the materials that you paid for.'

Trucke told the contractors that they were not allowed in her home, and that she had called police.

The Colorado Springs Police Department could not be reached at press time to determine whether a complaint had been filed.

Gregory and Cazares told DailyMail.com that they intend to take Trucke to small claims court for the money they say she owes. Likewise, Trucke intends to sue the company for the money she did pay for the doomed project and the cost of repairing the new damage.
