After various controversies concerning journalistic mishaps, the New York Times faced more ridicule after publishing a story defending women against "poop shame" in the workplace.
The bizarre piece was entitled, "Women Poop. At Work. Get Over It."
"Poop shame is real — and it disproportionately affects women, who suffer from higher rates of irritable bowel syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease," the article declared.
"In other words, the patriarchy has seeped into women's intestinal tracts," they added. "Let's call it the pootriarchy."
The article was accompanied with an inexplicably strange illustration showing bathroom stalls with several women in attendance, presumably being shamed over it.
Many on social media mocked and derided the New York Times for the story and the illustration.

New York Times be like “Quick, think of something to get folks to stop focusing on our botched Kavanaugh debacle! I got it, run this piece.” https://t.co/WgDivSRt4N— Brandon Darby (@brandondarby) September 17, 2019

Er, what’s happening in this illustration? Did the woman in the stall to the far left need help or something?— Jim Geraghty (@jimgeraghty) September 17, 2019
And who took their shoes off?
New York Times, are you feeling okay?https://t.co/3r8knbxsUX pic.twitter.com/290YTfw9jH
Look, the first and second stalls are concerning in their own right, but I'm most bothered by the third stall: Only a monster would use a public restroom barefoot. https://t.co/hiLIxMdSlH— Natalie Johnson (@nataliejohnsonn) September 17, 2019
The New York Times has been facing criticism for what many called a smear against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, based on poorly sourced accusations.
In another odd mistake, their headline put the blame of the 9/11 attack on the airplanes taking aim the World Trade Center and made no mention of the jihadist extremists.
