SNL goes easy on Joe (again): Biden's Afghan debacle and budget dumpster fire are mocked as Kyrsten Sinema, AOC, Joe Manchin and Gov. Cuomo all offer conflicting advice to the embattled president

The new season of Saturday Night Live opened with a sketch poking fun at President Joe Biden and the division within the Democratic party

Owen Wilson opened the 47th season of the live comedy sketch show after last season saw record low ratings.

New cast member James Austin Johnson as Biden, began by asking 'How was everyone's summer? Mine was bad.'

'Everyone keeps razing me about that drone strike,' he continued, 'but on the bright side, I went the entire summer without falling down the stairs once.'

He was then joined by other Democrats: Senator Kyrsten Sinema played by Cecliy Strong, Senator Joe Manchin played by Aidy Bryant, Representative Ilhan Omar played by Ego Nwodim, and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez played by Melissa Villasenor, who noted her controversial 'Tax the Rich' Met Gala dress.

The Democrats all argued about the child tax credit, roads, water, prescription drugs, and raising taxes.

They were then joined by disgraced former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo played by Pete Davidson who asked for another chance and tried to play off his sexual assault allegations, 'You know what Italians like to do? Hug and kiss.'

Chuck Schumer played by Alex Moffat joined in at the end completing the group of disagreeing Democrats.

Wilson performed his opening monologue making fun of himself and how many schools he attended without receiving any degrees.

He had previously said that he's always been 'too nervous' to take it on the hosting gig and that the idea makes him 'panic.'

'I get really nervous with public speaking. I've never done any of those commencement addresses or Saturday Night Live just because I get too nervous.'

But Wilson had his two brothers, Luke and Andrew in the audience to cheer him on.

SNL parodied The View with a show titled The Talking with several female cast members acting as daytime talk show host preparing to welcome the Pope as their guest when a doctor, played by Wilson, joined them on the air.

He then continued to announce the results of the women's medical results including positive COVID and STD results.

The writers were referencing the moment last month when The View pulled host Ana Navarro mid-show due to a positive COVID test just minutes before Vice President Kamala Harris was scheduled to appear on the show.

Wilson, who voices the Disney character Lightning McQueen from Cars, then appeared in a sketch showing him voice the character in another Cars movie.

In this sketch, Wilson becomes increasingly uncomfortable as his lines continue to portray McQueen hitting on young girls and using offensive language.

SNL made sure to joke about the billionaire space race between Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin, Elon Musk's SpaceX, and Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic.

A parody movie trailer titled Star Trek: Ego Quest saw Wilson star as Bezos orbiting in his Blue Origin spacecraft with his brother Mark, played by Wilson's brother Luke.

In the joke trailer, Bezos chats with Branson, gets an Amazon delivery, and is confronted by his nemesis, Musk.

SNL then went on to a sketch portraying a local school board meeting that is inundated with crazy parents and teachers asking ridiculous questions regarding the school's confederate associations, COVID, Critical Race Theory, and segregation.

The comedy show then went into its popular Weekend Update segment starring head writers, Colin Jost and Michael Che.

While the comedians had plenty of material to cover from the show's summer break, they closed out the bit with a touching tribute to former SNL cast member Norm MacDonald, who passed away on September 14.

MacDonald was best known for hosting the Weekend Update segment in the 90s. On the show he popularized the term 'fake news' and pushed the popular news commentary away from Chase's slapstick comedy take on to the more politically charged sharp approach that is still seen today.

Throughout the show Wilson also starred as a teacher, an NFL commentator, and a commercial director.

Kasey Musgraves performed two songs from her recently released second album, Star-Crossed.

Fans noticed that Beck Bennett did not return for this season. Kate McKinnon did make an appearance in the first show back but has confirmed that she will be returning this season.

Along with Johnson, this season will welcome new cast members: Aristotle Athari and Sarah Sherman.

In the next few weeks, viewers will watch Kim Kardashian, Rami Malek, and Jason Sudeikis host SNL.
