Whirlpool offers workers a $1,000 incentive to get Covid-19 jabs after Biden signed sweeping new vaccine orders

Home appliance giants Whirlpool are offering an incentive to employees for getting the COVID-19 vaccine that could probably help refurnish their own homes.

The company says it will pay workers $1,000 to get the shot in a new incentive to encourage vaccinations as of last week.

Whirlpool had previously been offering smaller incentives to try and entice workers into getting the jab.

The company has nine manufacturing facilities, including five in Ohio, one in Tennessee, one in Iowa, one in Oklahoma and another in Massachusetts.

As of 2020, the company reported having 78,000 employees. They have not said how many are currently vaccinated.

The vaccine bonus comes as the Biden administration prepares an emergency rule that will require large companies, like Whirlpool, to ensure their entire workforce is vaccinated or subject unvaccinated staff to weekly testing.

White House officials have said that companies that break those rules could face fines of up to $14,000 per violation.

'Our employees' health and safety remains our top priority,' Whirlpool said in a statement.

'Throughout this pandemic they have been working tirelessly to serve our consumers, who are depending on our products more than ever to clean, cook and provide proper food and medicine storage in their homes, and we are working to ensure we can deliver.'

Chad Parks, a company spokesman, said the stepped-up vaccine bonus will apply to workers who were previously vaccinated as well as newly vaccinated ones.

Parks declined to say how much the previous incentive was for.

Other companies have made similar promises to workers.

Kroger offered a one-time $100 payment, while Bolthouse Farms promoted a $500 bonus.
