EXCLUSIVE: Chaos at The View as show scrambles to replace Meghan McCain with a 'Trump Republican' like Kimberly Guilfoyle or Candace Owens to balance out the panel - leaving Joy Behar moaning she'll be stuck with someone tougher

The View is scrambling to find a 'Trump Republican' to replace Meghan McCain, leaving veteran co-host Joy Behar complaining that the new addition could be even tougher than her on-screen enemy.

'It's chaos behind the scenes at The View,' an ABC insider tells DailyMail.com. 'Joy Behar is openly moaning about Meghan leaving as it's finally hit her that sometimes it is better the devil you know.

'Joy has only just realized that they could be getting someone much further right on the political spectrum than Meghan who won't put up with her crap,' they added.

The source said that if ABC was gutsy, they'd do a 'massive shake up' and hire popular conservatives like Kimberly Guilfoyle, Megyn Kelly or even controversial Candace Owens to 'give the other women a run for their money.'

The insider also revealed that the show had tried three different times to hire Guilfoyle, girlfriend of Donald Trump Jr., while she was at Fox News.

'[Kimberly] would be great as she would literally prosecute the other members of the panel every day of the week,' they said. 'One of our highest rated episodes ever was when she stopped by the show with Don Jr.

'Megyn Kelly would also do the same, however her new Sirius deal makes it hard for her to come to us.'

There is also mounting tension as guest host Ana Navarro is vying for a permanent seat, but the insider claims she won't get it.

'Ana Navarro is angry because she desperately wants Meghan's job but she's convinced they're not going to give her a full time seat at the table,' they said.

'Ana doesn't deserve the chair. She is not a Republican in the true sense of the word, all she does is slam people who voted for Trump.

'We need to hire a Trump Republican to reach more of the available audience at home.

'Ana is not the person.'

There is speculation that Sara Haines could be making an exit as well, which would leave two more slots to fill.

'Everyone is convinced that Sara Haines is on the way out too. First Wendy Williams announced it on her show and then our staff found out we were in talks with Debbie Matenopoulos when they read it in the Daily Mail.

'Debbie would be the perfect replacement for Sara – she's fun, engaging and says what is on her mind. She's also one of the show's OGs and it might calm Joy to have her at the table as the show enters its 25th year and returns to the studio.'

'Sara is such a sweet person but she just doesn't fit and really doesn't add anything. We often joke that she could be replaced by a loaf of white bread and the audience wouldn't know the difference.'

'For some reason ABC has moved Sara from show to show. It's now time to move her off The View for a second time.'

'The worst part for Sara is ABC always says, ''no it's not true, we love you'' and then they stab you in the back and you're out.

'If you don't believe me, ask Star Jones, Jenny McCarthy, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Nicolle Wallace, Michelle Collins, etc etc etc.... the list goes on and on and on.'

Following DailyMail.com revealing the talks of Matenopoulos joining the show, a spokesperson for Matenopoulos said: 'Debbie will always have a fond place in her heart for The View, the show that launched her career as a 21-year-old straight out of NYU.

'Debbie Matenopoulos would be the perfect replacement for Sara – she's fun, engaging and says what is on her mind,' the source said

'Debbie Matenopoulos would be the perfect replacement for Sara – she's fun, engaging and says what is on her mind,' the source said

'Her rep has in fact been having conversations with senior executives at ABC News over the past few months about many things, including her participation in celebrating the 25th season of The View, and she appreciates all the interest in her returning.

'Currently, she is in development on two food shows and her own lifestyle show, but she'd never say never to returning to her first television home.'

McCain addressed her resignation during the The View's opening segment earlier this month, saying: 'I'm going to rip the band aid off.'

'This was not an easy decision,' she said.  'I am here to tell you - all of my wonderful co-hosts and viewers at home - that this is going to be my last season here at The View.

'It's not easy to leave but I feel like this is the right decision for me at the moment.'

Co-hosts, Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin and Ana Navarro were unaware that she had resigned prior to the reveal, a source told DailyMail.com.

The outspoken co-host said she had built an 'incredible life' in Washington, DC after leaving New York City while she was still pregnant with daughter Liberty during the pandemic.

'When I think about where I want Liberty to have her first steps, her first words - I just have this really wonderful life here that ultimately I felt like I didn't want to leave,' she said.
