Home chefs don't always agree on whether butter should be stored in the fridge or on the countertop. Pasteurized, salted butter is safe to keep on your countertop for as long as 10 days. And that way, it will be nice and soft for your morning toast.

Butter is the key to a perfect filet mignon. Use one of our flavored butter recipes to take your steak the extra mile. "The best way to cook this cut is to pan sear the steaks in butter with fresh thyme and garlic," Chef Saul Montiel of Cantina Rooftop in New York City previously told EatThis.com. Yum.

Grating frozen butter, or at least butter that's fresh out of the fridge, will make the process a lot easier. If you only need a little butter for baking, it's not a bad idea to keep a stick in the freezer so you can grate it into pie recipes and other baked treats.
