Two days after “Lost” star Daniel Dae Kim took to social media to announce he had tested positive for the China-originated novel coronavirus, or COVID-19, the actor added a video-update crediting the President Donald Trump-touted hydroxychloroquine as the “secret weapon” drug in his recovery.
“I need to say this in bold letters: Obviously, I am not a doctor, nor am I lawyer … So please don’t take my word as that of a medical professional,” emphasized Kim.
“That said, here is a treatment protocol I followed as prescribed by the amazing doctor,” he continued. “It was what’s called a drug cocktail, which means it’s a combination of different drugs. It consisted of Tamiflu, which is an anti-viral, the antibiotic azithromycin, more commonly known as a ‘Zpack,’ a glycopyrrolate inhaler, that was used to ease breathing and the inflammation commonly associated with COVID.”
“And here’s what I consider to be the secret weapon: hydroxychloroquine,” Kim stated. “This is a common anti-malarial drug that has been used with great success in Korea in their fight against the coronavirus. And yes, this is the drug that the president mentioned the other day.”
Kim noted it is “also the drug that Dr. Anthony Fauci cautioned us against,” noting that evidence of its effectiveness against COVID-19 is “anecdotal.”
“That is correct … it is only based on personal accounts,” he stressed. “Well, add my name to those personal accounts, because I am feeling better.”
An optimistic President Trump said during a Friday press conference that New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) will be allowing the drug to treat COVID-19 patients on Tuesday.
Kim’s Friday video announcing his positive test took a swing at President Trump and defended China, the country that unleashed the virus on the world without warning and with reports of a cover-up.
“Yes, I’m Asian. And yes, I have coronavirus,” Kim said in the Instagram video posted Friday. “But I did not get it from China, I got in America, in New York City.”
“And despite what certain political leaders want to call it, I don’t consider the place where it’s from as important as the people who are sick and dying,” the actor added, taking a clear shot at the president. “If I did, I would call this thing the New York virus, but that would be silly, right?”
As a fact-check from USA Today highlights, the virus did indeed come from China. “The consensus among researchers studying the spread of the virus pinpoints COVID-19’s likely origin to a ‘wet market,’ or live animal market, in Wuhan, China,” the report said. “Though experts have not ruled out the possibility that the pathogen could have been brought to the market by an already infected person, there is no evidence to suggest COVID-19 originated outside the country.”
“China knew about the virus in November; reportedly hid the extent of the outbreak from the rest of the world; allegedly silenced critics, doctors, and journalists who sounded the alarm; failed to contain the virus within its own borders; and has falsely suggested that the U.S. military may be behind the virus,” The Daily Wire’s Ryan Saavedra has emphasized.
