Lena Dunham’s New HBO Series Will Explore Teen Sexuality In A ‘Conservative Community’

Lena Dunham will return to HBO with yet another sex-charged series, only this one will explore teen sexuality in a conservative community with themes similar to that of the highly controversial “Euphoria.”

“HBO Max has given a series order to ‘Generation,’ a dramedy executive-produced by the controversial ‘Girls’ creator, the streaming service announced Thursday,” reports TV Guide. “The series is created by 18-year-old writer Zelda Barnz and her father Daniel, who also directs. It’s executive-produced by Dunham and Ben Barnz, Daniel’s husband and Zelda’s other father. It’s HBO Max’s first pilot to be ordered to series.”

The show has been described as “dark yet playful half-hour following a group of high school students whose exploration of modern sexuality (devices and all) tests deeply entrenched beliefs about life, love, and the nature of family in their conservative community.”

Series writer Zelda Barnz said that the show is meant to represent kids of her own age — Generation Z — without any judgment or nostalgia.

“I wanted to see myself and kids my own age represented on TV in a way that felt real, without judgment or nostalgia,” Barnz said in a statement. “I’m so appreciative of my mentor and soul-sister Lena Dunham for all her support and guidance, and so thankful to HBO Max for making this crazy dream come true.”

As of now, there is no indication as to how explicit the sexuality presented will be; if it’s anything like HBO’s “Euphoria,” then audiences should expect something shocking, to say the least. Here’s how The Daily Wire’s Hank Berrien described it at the time of the show’s release:

“Euphoria,” starring Zendaya, who first came to prominence on Disney Channel’s “Shake It Up,” features an actor using a prosthetic penis to commit a rape as well as a scene in which roughly 30 young men are shown fully nude, as The Hollywood Reporter notes. There’s a sex scene between teens involving choking and even a charming scene where an obese man on a webcam masturbates to a young woman.

Strangely, the presence of Lena Dunham might actually shake things up a bit, because, believe it or not, conservatives have heaped praise upon her HBO show “Girls” for concluding on a positive note despite her outspoken feminism and abortion advocacy. Magdalena Segieda went as far to call Dunham “The Most Pro-Life Conservative Voice of Her Generation” due to the show’s conclusion.

As the series developed, it has become clear that if you cast aside the sex, the drugs, and the nudity — although it is doubtful if you can ever truly forget the image of Lena Dunham nude — then GIRLS is one of the most conservative and pro-life TV series in years.

The show’s conservative messages are plenty. All the girls featured in GIRLS learn at the end of the series that in order to be truly happy, you need to give up your promiscuous, drug-taking lifestyle and get a job. Or you need to drop your drug-taking spouse and get a job. Or you need to marry a nice boy. Or you need to move out of the city where people crap on the street and into the countryside. The happy endings for all the GIRLS are all variations on a fairly conservative theme.
