After missing a short birdie putt that lost him the third playoff hole at Open de Argentina over the weekend, PGA Tour golfer Brandon Matthews was visibly upset. What made matters worse was that the miss came as a fan yelled during his backswing–a no-no in golf when it comes to etiquette.
Matthews was understandably irate after the missed putt and with the yelling by the fan. He turned around and yelled at the crowd surrounding the green.
The missed putt cost Matthews a spot on The Open Championship, and for a competitor at that level, it was a heartbreaking ending.

When Mathews came back to the Clubhouse after the tournament, he was informed by a course official that the fan who yelled during his backswing was a middle-aged man with Down Syndrome.

In a selfless act of compassion, Matthews headed back out to the course to meet up with the fan. Matthews spoke with the fan and after a few moments, he gave the fan a hug and an autographed glove and ball.
