The Democrats, their liberal media and NeverTrumpers are doing all they can (again) to hide the truth and claim that Obama’s Vice President Joe Biden was right in firing Victor Shokin. Ukrainian prosecutor Shokin was looking into Hunter Biden’s actions with the Ukraine’s largest oil and gas producer where young Biden was on the Board. They again are not telling the truth!
Far left liberals, their media and NeverTrumpers are working overtime to whitewash the Bidens’ corruption in Ukraine. For example, Erick Erickson, who has been wrong about everything since the 2016 primaries, is defending the Bidens’ illegal activities in the Ukraine keeping his near perfect record of being wrong:
NeverTrumpers like Erickson and all the far left media and Democrats claim that it was proper for Biden to see to it that Shokin fired in the Ukraine – this was the right thing to do – they all agree with the far left DailyBeast (what a perfect name for a website by the way):
Others have rightly pointed out that, in reality, Biden was not simply relaying the message pushed by the Obama administration, but that his position was supported by Ukrainian anti-corruption activists, European allies, and even groups like the International Monetary Foundation (IMF). As Tom Malinowski, former assistant secretary of state under Obama, recalled this week, “All of us working on Ukraine wanted this prosecutor gone, because he was NOT prosecuting corruption. So did the Europeans. So did the IMF. This didn’t come from Joe Biden—he just delivered our message.”
Biden later bragged about having the prosecutor looking into his son’s company in the Ukraine fired:
The claim is that “every major power on earth wanted that guy fired” due to the fact that Viktor Shokin dragged his feet on the investigation into Mykola Zlochevsky is false.
Mykola Zlochevsky is the founder of Burisma, Ukraine’s largest gas and oil provider, the same company that Hunter Biden and Devon Archer ultimately served on its board. Zlochevsky had also served as Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources and was the deputy secretary for Economic and Social Security on the National Security and Defense Council for the Ukrainian Viktor Yanukovytch government.
Yanukovytch fled to Russia following the Euromaidan uprising in February of 2014. Approximately two months later, the UK opened an investigation into Zlochevsky for money laundering. The UK even went so far as to seize/sanction $23.5 million of Zlochevsky’s money that happened to be housed in a financial institution in the UK at the time, but in order to keep this money permanently, the UK needed the Ukraine to find Zlochevsky guilty of this crime. Both the UK and the US began to place significant pressure on the Ukrainian government to investigate Zlochevsky.
Bloomberg released a report and changed the facts surrounding the timeline in the Ukraine involving Shokin:
But this is not true. In July of 2014, three months after the UK opened its investigation of Zlochevsky, the Ukraine opened an investigation at the request of the UK, the case was initially assigned to Vitaliy Kasko, not Shokin.
The investigation started a year before Shokin became Prosecutor General. In fact, the Zlochevsky investigation had changed hands several times before Shokin’s involvement.
The investigation was begun by Kasko in August 2014. On December 4, 2014, Deputy General Prosecutor Herasymiuk transferred the investigation to the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Then on December 29, 2014, the GPO took the criminal investigation back from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and once again, Kasko resumed control over the investigation.
The reason for all this frantic activity was because, if the UK court case against Zlochevsky failed, then all the other countries who had seized assets related to the Yanukovytch government, their cases were in jeopardy too, a domino effect. In January 2015 the Central Criminal Court of London cancelled the seizure of the accounts.
On February 10, 2015, approximately a month and a half after the UK had to release the funds, they were so upset because the investigation did not produce any results, Viktor Shokin became Prosecutor General. No crimes were found in 2014 or 2015. They only found him guilty of tax evasion in late 2016, approximately two years after the investigation had begun.
Then in March 2016, Biden told Poroshenko the Obama administration was prepared to rescind $1 billion in U.S. loan guarantees unless Shokin was given the boot, according to an investigative column in The Hill.
