Kanye West Defends Trump Support: ‘Mental Slavery’ To Make Decisions Based On Race

Music icon and fashion bigwig Kanye West has once again demonstrated that his support for President Trump stems from a deep conviction within himself rather than a momentary burst of “dragon energy.”
Over the weekend, while speaking before his audience at another of his Sunday Services, this time in Salt Lake City, West argued that for black Americans, voting for a candidate based solely on skin color is a form of “mental slavery.” The rapper even lauded the Republican Party’s history on race relations, starting all the way back to when Abraham Lincoln helped free the slaves.
“That’s the Republican Party that freed the slaves,” West said, as reported by the Washington Examiner.
Kanye West added that he has every right to support whomever he wants for whatever reason and that his skin color should have nothing to do with it.
“And we got the right, right? We got a right to our opinions, right?” he asked. “You black, so you can’t like Trump? I ain’t never made a decision only based on my color. That’s a form of slavery, mental slavery.”

Despite not agreeing with everything on President Trump’s agenda, Kanye West has repeatedly stated that attacks against Trump and his supporters are based more on ideological bigotry rather than genuine disagreement. Speaking with David Letterman on his Netflix show, “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction,” in May of this year, West said that Trump supporters have the right to feel what they feel without being bullied by liberals.
“This is like my thing with Trump — we don’t have to feel the same way, but we have the right to feel what we feel,” West told Letterman.
The rapper added that he wears the “Make America Great Again” hat not to show support for Trump’s politics but to break the stigma that comes with supporting Trump. Later, he highlighted how Trump supporters are “treated like enemies of America because that’s what they felt.”
“Have you ever been beat up in your high school for wearing the wrong hat?” Kanye asked Letterman. “Liberals bully people who are Trump supporters!”
Upon his initial support for Trump, West said that he does not agree with all his politics but does not believe people should be bullied for agreeing with him.
“You don’t have to agree with trump but the mob can’t make me not love him,” West tweeted in April of last year. “We are both dragon energy. He is my brother. I love everyone. I don’t agree with everything anyone does. That’s what makes us individuals. And we have the right to independent thought.”
On the issue of mental slavery, West generated controversy when said that 400 years of slavery was a “choice.”

“When you hear about slavery for 400 years … for 400 years? That sounds like a choice,” he said. “Like, you was there for 400 years and it’s all of y’all? It’s like we’re mentally in prison. I like the word ‘prison’ because slavery goes too direct to the idea of blacks. It’s like slavery, Holocaust. Holocaust, Jews. Slavery is blacks. So, prison is something that unites us as one race. Blacks and whites being one race. We’re the human race.”
