Alyssa Milano, one of the most outspoken liberals in Hollywood, met with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) last week in Washington, D.C., to discuss gun reform — one of the topics that most contrasts Milano's liberalism with Cruz's conservatism.
After the meeting, Milano praised Cruz and said that her liberal friends are "wrong" about the Republican lawmaker.
The two met after Milano questioned on social media how Second Amendment rights are a "God-given right." Cruz responded to Milano's question leading her to extend an invitation to discuss the issue face-to-face; Cruz quickly accepted the invite.
After the meeting, Milano recounted the meeting in an op-ed for CNN. While neither Cruz nor Milano changed their views, Milano said her biggest take away was Cruz's humanity.
"Let me be clear: Cruz and I agree on very little. He is a stalwart conservative; I am a committed progressive," she wrote. "On issue after issue we have fundamentally different views on freedom and humanity and our government."
"Here's what I came away with that I wasn't so sure of before the meeting: Ted Cruz is a human being. He is a real person. He isn't a villain in a movie. He cares when these shootings happen," Milano explained.
"When people on my side of this fight say he doesn't, they're wrong," she declared.
