House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has objected to nearly every single proposal from Republicans and President Donald Trump meant to alleviate the ongoing border crisis.
However, newly re-surfaced video from 2008 shows that Pelosi once supported the principles she suddenly now opposes.
"We have a couple of different issues we are talking about," Pelosi said in the video posted by Independent Women's Voice. "Do we have a commitment to secure the border? Yes."
"What are the options that we have available to us? Lets make sure they work," she explained. "Because while we need to address the issue of immigration and the challenge we have of undocumented people in our country, we certainly don't want any more coming in."
Pelosi's words ring hollow in comparison to modern Democratic rhetoric. Now, progressive Democrats like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), who many Americans believe speak for the Democratic Party, argue for the abolition of the Department of Homeland Security and the decriminalization of illegal border crossings.
Meanwhile, Republicans continue to advocate for a secure border — including a barrier — and restricted immigration to alleviate the current crisis.
