NASA
The first woman to fly into space didn’t occur until 1963 (from the USSR, BTW), and it took another 20 years before female astronauts became commonly used. Curious why the lack of women, author Mary Robinette Kowal published an essay called “To Make It to the Moon, Women Have to Escape Earth’s Gender Bias.”
As you might imagine some were skeptical, however, claiming that NASA didn’t send women into orbit because they lacked the technology to deal with the female bodily functions. In response, Kowal posted a fascinating pee/poop crash-course that breaks down very simply why their theory doesn’t hold up. But truth be told, gender biases aside, this is a wildly informative and eye-opening thread…
