President Donald Trump is putting on a show to celebrate America’s independence.
The event, meant to laud the Fourth of July and the might of the American military, will take place Thursday night.
But if you are planning on watching the patriotic jubilation, don’t turn your channel to ABC.
Or CBS.
Or NBC.
None of those stations are airing the event on their over-the-air channels, according to the Daily Mail.
Rather, they’re all airing their regularly programmed broadcasts of the nightly news … and Jeopardy.
I’ll take unpatriotic and boring for $1776, Alex.
The very first paragraph of CBS’s write-up about the event pooh-pooh’s whatever patriotic vibes you might have had. “The president’s critics have chastised him for bringing costly military equipment reminiscent of more dictatorial regimes and for placing himself center stage in the typically nonpartisan celebration,” CBS reports.
CBS anchors may as well have put on Kaepernick jerseys, ate tofu burgers, stomped on red, white and blue cupcakes, and threw darts at pictures of a bald eagle.
Trump has applauded the celebration as an opportunity to show “the American people, among other things, the strongest and most advanced Military anywhere in the World. Incredible Flyovers & biggest ever Fireworks!”
The president has called the event “the show of a lifetime.”
As to the cost, Trump tweeted, “The cost of our great Salute to America tomorrow will be very little compared to what it is worth. We own the planes, we have the pilots, the airport is right next door (Andrews), all we need is the fuel. We own the tanks and all. Fireworks are donated by two of the greats. Nice!”
Trump’s pro-America extravaganza will be aired on Fox News and C-Span.
