Stunning new poll shows Justin Amash could lose primary to pro-Trump challenger

Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.) got some very bad news via a new poll showing that support in his district has swung to his pro-Trump primary challenger.

Michigan state lawmaker Jim Lower announced that he would challenge him in the Republican primary after Amash announced that he supported the impeachment of President Donald Trump.

The poll from MIRS News Service showed Amash at 33 percent, with Lower at 49 percent.

On Wednesday, Amash again parted with Republicans and voted with Democrats on an otherwise partisan motion to hold Trump administration figures in contempt.
Democrats on the House Oversight Committee passed a resolution in favor of holding Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and U.S. Attorney General William Barr in contempt of Congress.

The vote passed 24-15 with only Amash crossing party lines to join the Democrats.
Amash spoke to Fox News about the rationale for his controversial vote.

"I didn't think any of the excuses presented were legitimate. I stuck with what I believed," he said. "I'm not here to vote with one party. I'm here to follow the Constitution and the law."

Amash also stepped down from the conservative "Freedom Caucus," of which he was a founder.

Here's more on the contempt vote:
