Many college students aren't on board with AOC's plan to wipe out $1.6 trillion in student loan debt

Some students don't feel that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's (D-N.Y.) plan to eradicate more than $1 trillion in student loan debt just so people have equal enough footing to be able to attend their "dream colleges."
Ocasio-Cortez proposed that taxpayers foot the bill to pay off student debt, endorsing a bill sponsored by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), and Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) that would cost taxpayers approximately $1.6 trillion.

What are the details?

Campus Reform interviewed a variety of real life college students, who were presented with the Democratic Socalist's ideas on education reform.
Many of the students disagreed with freshman congresswoman's idea, insisting that students could go to their colleges of choice — or thereabouts — through good, old-fashioned hard work.
In a recent interview, Ocasio-Cortez explained, "I have student loans, too. It was literally easier for me to become the youngest woman in American history elected to Congress than it is to pay off my student loan debt."

Here are some of the more interesting remarks that students made

  • If you make irresponsible decisions, you shouldn't have to have the government pay for it
  • I have been working two jobs since I was 16, at least, and paid for every dime of my college myself.
  • One thing that I always knew growing up was responsibility. That was expected. That was what I [was] taught. That was all I knew — hard work and responsibility.
  • [Forgiving student loans] creates an entitlement culture where they think that things are free.
  • [Student loans are] your responsibility as an adult to pay it back.
  • I got a job at 15 [years old] to try and afford the cost of education.
  • College is a privilege and not a right.
