3 Ways CBDs Can Provide Endometriosis Relief

The therapeutic potential of CBDs is incredibly promising. Thanks to the discovery of our body’s innate endocannabinoid system, we’ve learned that CBDs can soothe and balance our most important bodily systems, like our reproductive system. In fact, they may be able to provide some much-needed relief for chronic women’s hormonal conditions, like endometriosis.

FIRST THINGS FIRST, WHAT IS ENDOMETRIOSIS, EXACTLY?

Endometriosis is a painful female disorder in which the tissue that normally lines the uterus (endometrium) migrates to other parts of the body—outside the uterus. It can grow anywhere in the body, but it most commonly congregates on the ovaries or in the abdomen.
While the tissue itself isn’t inherently harmful, it still sheds as it normally would during menstruation, no matter where it is in the body. This can be incredibly painful. As inflammation and scarring builds up in the body (since the tissue can’t be properly discharged) the pain can become worse and worse.

Endometriosis is a really challenging condition, and unfortunately, there is no known cure. Sufferers are often prescribed painkillers, hormone therapy or surgery—none of which consistently help.

CBDS FOR ENDOMETRIOSIS

There is great promise in the field of CBD research for its ability to soothe and regulate endometriosis. Here are a few ways CBDs can benefit women suffering with this hormonal condition.

1. Cell Multiplication and Migration

Apoptosis is a normal part of cell life in which the body kills off old and irregular cells. However, in endometriosis, this natural function seems to become impaired.
Since the endocannabinoid system is involved in this process, supplementing with CBDs to activate the system can help to restore some balance and inhibit the endometrial tissuefrom multiplying when it shouldn’t.
CBDs can also help regulate cell migration by blocking the activation of certain overactive receptors. However, be aware that THC, the psychoactive compound in marijuana, actually stimulates these receptors, so it is important to always balance out its effects with CBD for those with endometriosis.

2. Pain Relief

When the endometrial tissue migrates and sets up shop, it develops new blood vessels around itself and begins to painfully stimulate local nerves. Our nerves contain endocannabinoid receptors, some of which CBD is capable of desensitizing, which significantly helps to ease the chronic pain this rogue tissue causes.

3. Inflammation

For most women struggling with endometriosis, they are prescribed what is essentially a lot of extra-strength Advil to manage the pain and inflammation. However, Advil also comes with other undesirable side effects, so using CBDs to manage the pain naturally can be a gamechanger. CBD specifically inhibits the enzymes that cause inflammation with targeting sister enzymes that can cause unwanted side effects.
The research on the medicinal uses of CBD is still ongoing, but for women with endometriosis, there is a lot of promise that some natural relief may finally be possible. As more and more CBD products and therapies flood the market, hopefully more women will be able to find relief than ever before.
