Less than one week after a gunman opened fire on more than a dozen Republican members of Congress on a Virginia baseball field, a Connecticut college professor said that first responders to the shooting should have “let them die” because they are white.
In a Facebook post Saturday, Trinity College professor Johnny Eric Williams shared a Medium post titled, “Let them f***ing die,” Campus Reform reported.
The author of the Medium post quoted Fusion writer Anne Branigin, who on Thursday, just one day after House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) suffered a gunshot wound to the hip, accused Scalise of racism and criticized his opposition to gay marriage:
Steve Scalise, the House Majority Whip who was shot by a gunman who attacked a congressional baseball practice on Wednesday, has kept company with racists. He was forced to apologize for speaking at an international conference of white supremacists, and reportedly referred to himself as “David Duke without the baggage.” Following Scalise’s shooting, Duke praised him for ‘defending white civil rights.’Scalise has also been described as one of the most anti-LGBTQ politicians in Washington. He’s voted against LBGTQ rights over and over again. He also authored Louisiana’s ban on same-sex marriage. Like many of his ilk, he said he was only trying to protect ‘traditional’ marriage.
The Fusion article called attention to the fact that Scalise and other Republicans credited their lives being saved to two armed Capitol Police officers, one of whom is a “queer black woman” named Crystal Griner.
“So it is a point of especially delicious irony that Scalise, who survived the attack (and is reportedly in critical condition), may owe his life to a queer black woman,” the Fusion article stated.
The other Capitol Police officer being credited with saving lawmakers’ lives is David Bailey, who is black.
The Medium post that Williams shared on Facebook was authored under the pseudonym “Son of Baldwin.” The piece urged blacks and other minority citizens to let white people die if they are ever in need of help.
If you see them drowning. If you see them in a burning building. If they are bleeding out in an emergency room. If the ground is crumbling beneath them. If they are in a park and they turn their weapons on each other: do nothing…Least of all put your life on the line for theirs, and do not dare think doing so, putting your life on the line for theirs, gives you reason to feel celestial. Save the life of those that would kill you is the opposite of virtuous. Let. Them. F***ing. Die. And smile a bit when you do.
Williams offered further provocative and incendiary comments along with the link to the Medium post.
“It is past time for the racially oppressed to do what people who believe themselves to be ‘white’ will not do, put end to the vectors of their destructive mythology of whiteness and their white supremacy system. #LetThemF***ingDie,” Williams wrote, Campus Reform reported.
In a separate Facebook post, Williams said that he is “fed the f*** up with self-identified ‘white’s’ daily violence directed at immigrants, Muslims, and sexual and racially oppressed people. The time is now to confront these inhuman assholes and end this now.”
It’s wasn’t clear whether Williams’ posts are still visible or were deleted, since his profile is not public.
Hey Eric Williams! the men in the white cloaks carrying a white something with extremely long arms are looking for you!!
