Nothing spreads germs and bacteria more effectively then holiday travel. Take millions of people from all over the country and even world intersecting at airports, shopping malls and party’s (right in the middle of cold and flu season) and you have ideal conditions for getting sick. Luckily there is Oregano Essential oil to help neutralize germs and bacteria, increase your body’s immune response and ease pain/inflammation, among other benefits. Let’s take a closer look at why you should add Oregano Essential oil to your travel kit.
Oregano Oil Health Benefits
Antiviral/Antibiotic:
Nothing can spoil a vacation (or potentially productive business meeting abroad) faster than a cold or flu. Every time we step onto an airplane, train or bus we encounter the germs of everyone else around us. It is unavoidable. This is why, in addition to dehydration, we get sick so often when we travel. The close proximity to others and the dry, recycled air we breath (which dries up our mucus glands) makes taking action to avoid getting sick essential. For general maintenance , ingest 3 drops (you can add this to water, tea, etc.) internally 2-3x per day. If you feel the onset of a cold or flu take 6 drops of Oregano Essential oil, followed by 3 drops every hour up to 10 hours per day. You can also use Oregano Essential oil topically to ease muscle aches associated with colds or flu’s (which we will discuss further later). Natural antibiotics like Oregano Essential oils are not susceptible to antibiotic resistance with multiple use like conventional antibiotics.
Oregano Essential oil can also be used topically to fight against Shingles, Warts and Herpes (including cold sores). Due to its strength, Oregano Essential oil is best applied in combination with a carrier oil (on sensitive areas combine 1 drop of Oregano Essential oil to 1 tablespoon of carrier oil and test on a small area first). If you find your skin is able to tolerate a more potent mixture, it can be added directly to the affected area with either a clean finger, or preferably, a Q-tip or cotton swab.
Food Poisoning: One key reason to keep Oregano Essential oil in your travel kit (especially when traveling internationally) is its effectiveness in relieving food poisoning. If you feel symptoms you believe are associated with food poisoning, ingest 3 drops hourly for up to 10 hours per day or when symptoms subside.
Anti-Inflammatory/Analgesic:
Anyone suffering from arthritis, bursitis or just general muscle soreness knows how travel can aggravate these symptoms. Sometimes people suffering from such painful conditions avoid travel all together because of the physical pain associated with it. However, applying Oregano Essential oil topically to affected areas can cause a reduction of pain and inflammation. The oils ability to deeply penetrate muscle tissues, makes it ideal for bringing relief from bruises, sprains, torn and sore muscles, tendonitis, cramps, carpal tunnel syndrome and other similar injuries which can be aggravated by travel. While you can apply Oregano Essential oil directly to your skin, it is often mixed with a carrier oil (3 drops of carrier oil per 1 drop of Oregano Essential oil).
Anti-venom:
Traveling to certain areas, particularity at certain times of the year, can be really hampered by bug and insect bites. A beautiful camping trip or hike in the mountains can take a sudden turn for the worse if you happen to be bitten by a venomous creature such as a snake or spider. Applying Oregano Essential oil directly to the bite is a effective first aid treatment for venomous bites from snakes, spiders or bee stings. You can also increase the effectiveness by ingesting a few drops. The oil will penetrate deep into the bite and kill the pathogens and toxins from the venom, bringing both pain relief and reducing inflammation.
