Tom Green Paying Fine for Man Arrested for Not Returning 2002 VHS of 'Freddy Got Fingered'

Tom Green is coming to the rescue of a man who was arrested for failing to return a VHS rental of his film Freddie Got Fingered

James Meyers of Concord, North Carolina, was put in handcuffs on Tuesday after police found an outstanding warrant for his arrest pertaining to an unreturned VHS rental from 2002, local station WSOC reported

The warrant came to light when Meyers was pulled over for driving with a broken taillight while on his way to drop his daughter off at school.

"The officer said, 'I don't know how to tell you this but there's a warrant out for your arrest from 2002. Apparently you rented the movie Freddy Got Fingeredand never returned it.' I thought he was joking," Meyers told WSOC TV.

Meyers was allowed to continue on his way to his daughter's school after he promised to turn himself in later in the day. When he returned to the station, he was placed in handcuffs and charged with failure to return rental property, which is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine up to $200.

Green weighed in on the bizarre situation via Twitter on Wednesday, writing "I just saw this and I am struggling to believe it is real."

The actor later told the New York Daily News he had spoken to Meyers and plans to help him with his expenses.

"If it's 200 bucks of course I'll pay it for him, just for the principle of the thing," Green said.

Meyers later told WSOC he was frustrated with time spent on his arrest.

  1. What is the principle of paying a fine that is beyond any statute of limitations for a movie worth 5o cents at a garage sale when the company that sought the warrant in non existent?

  2. Perhaps there is a sequel in the works?
