Poll: 68% of Americans Blame the 'Mainstream Media' for Violence at Trump Rallies

A majority of Americans blame the media for escalating violence at Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s political rallies.
In a recent poll, YouGov asked 1,000 American adults from March 14-16 their opinions on the violence occurring at Trump’s campaign events.
Asked how responsible the “mainstream media” is for the “recent violence at Trump campaign events,” 68 percent of those polled claimed the mainstream media bears the blame.
Of the respondents, 38 percent said the mainstream media holds “a lot” of the responsibility for the violence at the rallies, and 30 percent said the media is “a little” responsible for the violence.
The belief that the “mainstream media” is responsible for the violence is held across political lines.
In the poll, 59 percent of Democrats, 70 percent of Independents, and 77 percent of Republicans said the media is either “a lot” or “a little” to blame for the violence.
The poll also shows a majority of Americans specifically blame the violence at the Trump rallies on the “left-wing media.”
In the poll, 58 percent of Americans responded the “left-wing media” is either “a lot” (33 percent) or “a little” (25 percent) to blame for the violence at the rallies.
Nearly half of Democrats (49 percent), 54 percent of Independents, and 75 percent of Republicans all blamed the “left-wing media” for the violence at Trump’s rallies.
A smaller majority of Americans also blame the violence at Trump’s rallies on the “right-wing media.”
In the poll, 53 percent of Americans said the “right-wing media” is to blame for the violence at Trump’s rallies (28 percent responded the “right-wing media” is “a lot” to blame and 25 percent responded the “right-wing media is “a little” to blame). As well, 64 percent of Democrats, 51 percent of Independents, and 45 percent of Republicans blamed the violence at Trump’s rallies on the “right-wing media.”
