Mystery Apple Soup in Your Apple Juice?

Apple juice may the most popular juice, but sometimes its ingredients are downright toxic. Most conventional apple juice brands  contain grape juice, high fructose corn syrup, pear juice, pineapple juice, raisin sweetener, fig juice, fructose, and malic acid.  Additionally, apple juice actually has more sugar per serving than the same amount of Coca Cola.

High fructose corn syrup

High fructose corn syrup is an industrial food product. It’s not a naturally occurring substance. The sugars are extracted through a chemical enzymatic process resulting in a chemically and biologically novel compound called HFCS.

High Fructose Corn Syrup Health Dangers Include:

Weight gain

A study conducted by Princeton University [1], found that rats that were fed HFCS gained fat 300% more quickly than those fed an equal (or slightly larger) serving of fruit-derived sugar.Diabetes.
Diabetes
Consumption of high-fructose corn syrup can lead to a huge increase in the likelihood of developing diabetes.

Cancer
Research from 2010 published by the American Association for Cancer Research found that the fructose in HFCS promotes cancer growth, specifically pancreatic cancer.
Heart Disease
According to a 15-year Harvard study, participants who took in 25 percent or more of their daily calories as sugar were more than twice as likely to die from heart disease as those whose diets included less than 10 percent added sugar.

Synthetic Vitamins

Many apple juice from concentrate products do have vitamins and minerals, but these are added. These nutrients do not occur naturally like they do in fresh apples. Many vitamins are derived from synthetically manufactured substances and not edible foods. Synthetic substances are typically not absorbed as well, and are sometimes even harmful if consumed in large quantities over time.
Long term epidemiological evidence increasingly suggests these vitamins don’t do much for your health.

8 Popular Tea Bag Companies That Contain Illegal Amounts of Deadly Pesticides

Sipping on a cup of hot tea may be a safeguard against a lot of health problems, that is, unless your tea is soaked in pesticides. Some leading tea brands contain enough pesticides to poison and slowly kill you.

CBC News recently conducted an investigation on the pesticide levels in some of the most major tea-producing companies.  The investigators found that over half of all teas tested had pesticide residues that were above the legally acceptable limit. Multiple chemicals were found in 8 out of 10 teas, with one brand of tea containing over 22 different types of pesticides.
Countless studies have revealed, pesticides have been linked to ADHD, Alzheimer’s Disease, reproductive and birth defects, as well as cancer. Pesticides can cause harm to the nervous system and the endocrine system by disrupting hormones. Pesticides can pass from the mother during pregnancy which can be very harmful to the developing baby. These pesticides can also be passed through the breast milk of a nursing mother and child.

These dangerous pesticides build up in your body creating detrimental health problems.
The tea companies that were found to contain the highest pesticide levels were as follows:

• Lipton (Pure Green Tea and Yellow Label Black Tea)
• Tetley
• Twinning
• Red Rose
• No Name
• Uncle Lee’s Legends of China (Green Tea and Jasmine Green Tea)
• King Cole
• Signal
For the full list of pesticides in these teas, check out the documentation on CBC’s website, here.

Toxic Paper Tea Bags

Did you know that most conventional paper tea bags are treated with epichlorohydrin to protect these bags from disintegrating or tearing? EPICHLOROHYDRIN is a chlorinated epoxy compound used as an industrial solvent. It is a strong skin irritant and carcinogen. Epichlorohydrin is mainly used in the production of epoxy resins. According to safety literature from Dow, it’s a very dangerous chemical that requires using extra precautions when handling.

Avoid natural flavors as an ingredient.

“Natural flavors” is a sneaky way to hide ingredients from the consumer. It is used to manipulate consumers into thinking that they are buying a product with better, cleaner ingredients. Sounds harmless enough, but it usually stands for soy and corn based ingredients, which mean hidden GMOs.

Man Takes Photos With A Potato, Literally… (6 pics)

Colin Lowe is an amateur photographer from Albany who decided to do a little experiment with a potato. He actually turned it into a functional camera and went around Albany taking pictures. People thought it as some joke but here are the photos proving that his “invention” works.

Guy Was Called A “Dirty Biker” By A Narrow-Minded Woman But His FB Reply To Her Was Perfect (5 pics)

Don’t judge a book by its cover. It’s one of the important things that our parents and teachers tell us when we grow up. Apparently, no one ever told this woman about it. Because back in July of 2013 when she saw Luc Perreault, a motorcycle-enthusiast covered with tattoos, she made a snap judgment about him. But Luc wrote a beautiful answer on Facebook to this rude mother after their encounter.

Luc recounted an experience back in July 2013, when he decided to take a quick break from the open road to stop for some fast food at a Tim Horton’s restaurant in Canada. While waiting in line, Luc recalled he caught the attention of a curious little girl standing beside her mother. But the girl wasn’t scared, but rather interested in Luc and so the burly biker waved and said his friendliest ‘hello.’ The girl smiled back at Luc and said hi. It was a short, pleaasant and sweet exchange.
But it was at that moment that the girl’s mother grabbed her by the hand and told her, “We don’t talk to dirty bikers” and then the pair scurried off.
Later that day, Luc took to Facebook to write his thoughts on the occasion in an open letter to the mother who was so quick to cast judgement on him for his appearance — his words quickly went viral…

The letter reads: “To the family in the red SUV at Tim Horton’s today, Yes I am a big 280 lbs. guy with motorcycles and full of tattoos, I am a welder, I am loud, I drink beer, I swear and I look like I would eat your soul if you stare at me wrong. What you don’t know is that I have been happily married for 11 years, my kids call me daddy, I am a college graduate, my mother is proud of me and tells everyone how lucky she is to have such a wonderful son, my nieces and nephews are always happy to see there m’noncl Luc, when my daughter broke her arm I cried more than she did. I read books, I help people, I go out of my way to thank war veterans and I even cried at Armageddon…”

Contd…: “So next time I smile and say hi to your little girl and you grab her and tell her ” No no dear we don’t talk to dirty bikers” remember that even tho you hurt my feelings this “dirty biker would be the first person to run into your burning house to save your little girl’s gold fish so she wouldn’t be sad!!!!”

Let that be a lesson to everyone, a person is made up of more than their image. And the people you might try to protect yourself & your children from could very well be the people you need to rescue you in a moment of crisis.

6 Liver-Boosting Superfoods to Add to Your Diet

When was the last time you thought about your liver and the amazing job it’s doing to filter toxins, hormones, cholesterol, and more out of your blood.  Your liver is one of the most powerful organs in your body but chances are you haven’t given it a second thought.  Few people consider this organ yet it plays a critical role in maintain a healthy weight, hormone balance, reducing cholesterol, and eliminating harmful substances from your blood.  Autumn is the perfect time of year to give your liver a boost.
Avocado—Research shows that avocado supercharges other foods eaten alongside of it.  In other words, it boosts the nutrient absorption of other foods, particularly of a group of nutrients called carotenoids.  You may have heard of beta carotene (forms vitamin A in your body) and lycopene. The absorption of both of these nutrients is increased with avocado consumption.  Avocados contain a type of fat that is found in seafood but rarely in foods found on the land. While they have a reputation for being “high fat,” the fats they contain are beneficial and even reduce inflammation in the body. This translates into many liver health boosting properties. If you’ve never eaten avocado, it tastes like butter. Use it in place of butter on bread, wraps, or sandwiches, or top a salad with avocado, use it to make a delicious guacamole or veggie dip.  Simply cut lengthwise around the avocado, twist slightly to release the flesh from the pit, then using a slow chopping action hit the blade of a knife against the pit, twist and the pit will pop right out.
Dandelion Greens—Not just a weed, dandelion greens are delicious food and powerful medicine. They contain blood-building chlorophyll which gives them their green color. They also contain bitter compounds that help cleanse the liver. Choose young dandelion greens since they are more palatable. The older ones become extremely bitter. You can steam, sauté or juice the greens. Roast and grind the root for a delicious coffee-like caffeine-free beverage. I love dandelion greens chopped and sautéed with some minced garlic and olive oil then topped with some fresh lemon juice and a dash of unrefined sea salt.
Soy foods—Lecithin, found in soy foods, helps the liver metabolize fats and reduce cholesterol. Like eggs, it contains a substance called phosphatidylcholine and essential fatty acids that help keep liver cells healthy and help prevent fatty deposits from building up in the liver. Lecithin also helps reduce high blood pressure by allowing the blood vessels to relax to allow better blood flow. Lecithin is naturally found in soy milk, tofu, and miso, as well as organic eggs. Choose only certified organic soy foods since soy is a heavily genetically-modified food.  Fermented varieties like miso and soy yogurt are best.
Onions—Onions contains sulfur that is required to increase enzyme activity that, in turn, boosts liver cleansing. Without adequate levels of sulfur, the phase 2 of liver detoxification cannot keep pace with level 1, meaning that many toxins can become MORE dangerous in your body. Like garlic, onions also kill viruses, bacteria, and fungi.
Nuts and Seeds—I’ve counted these as 2 items but there are many different types of nuts and seeds, including: walnuts, Brazil nuts, hazelnuts, almonds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, etc. Consuming nuts and seeds is an all-natural way to help maintain healthy cholesterol levels. Be sure to choose raw, unsalted, nuts and seeds, preferably those found in the refrigerator section of your local health food store since the oils go rancid easily.

12 Household Toxins You Should Banish from Your Home

COAL TAR DRIVEWAY SEALANT

The Dirt: If you plan to seal your blacktop driveway, avoid coal tar–based sealants. They contain polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, or PAHs, toxic compounds shown to cause cancer or other genetic mutations. When rainwater and other precipitation hit your driveway, the toxic chemicals run off into your yard and into your local drinking water supply. In fact, this situation has been compared to dumping quarts of motor oil right down a storm drain. The dust is often tracked into homes, too.

Better Alternative: Gravel and other porous materialsare best for driveways because they allow rainwater to sink into the ground, where it gets filtered and doesn't inundate water treatment plants. But if you do seal blacktop, pick asphalt sealant and stay away from any product that has coal tar in its name (or products simply called "driveway sealant"). Lowe's and Home Depot have already banned the bad stuff, but smaller hardware stores may still carry it.

SYNTHETIC PESTICIDES

The Dirt: Chemical weed, fungus, and bug killers all fit under this category and should be avoided both inside and outside of your house. Researchers have linked these pesticides to various forms of cancer, including non-Hodgkin's lymphoma; insecticides have been connected to brain damage in kids. "This is a good time of the year to resolve not to use pesticides on lawns and gardens," says Phil Landrigan, MD, director of Mount Sinai's Children's Environmental Health Center. "A few dandelions or buttercups or other little flowers in the middle of the lawn are not unsightly."

Better Alternative: Combating an indoor bug problem is as simple as cleaning up crumbs, sealing food in containers, and using wood shims and a caulking gun to fill pest entry points. If you're spending big bucks on chemicals for a turf-like lawn, reconsider. Pesticides and chemical fertilizers kill the health of the soil and create a lawn that allows for little rainwater absorption, which contributes to flooding. Try replacing some sod with plants native to your area; they don't require as much water and maintenance.

ANTIBACTERIAL SOAP

The Dirt: The antimicrobial chemical triclosan, used in some toothpastes and antibacterial soaps, is believed to disrupt thyroid function and hormone levels in people; when it mixes into wastewater, it can cause sex changes in aquatic life. And health experts believe that overuse of this and other antibacterial chemicals is promoting the growth of bacteria that are resistant to antibacterial treatment.

Better Alternative: Good old-fashioned soap and warm water will kill just as many germs, studies have shown. If you must use a natural hand sanitizer, pick one that's alcohol based and doesn't list triclosan, triclocarban (another related antibacterial chemical) or other chemicals described as "antimicrobial" or "antibacterial" on the label.

SYNTHETIC FRAGRANCES

The Dirt: Fragrance may be the most common type of chemical in your house. Used in laundry detergents, fabric softeners, dryer sheets, cleaning supplies, disinfectants, air fresheners, deodorizers, shampoos, hair sprays, gels, lotions, sunscreens, soaps, perfumes, powders, and scented candles—and dozens of other products you may not know about—fragrances are a class of chemicals that are well worth the time and effort to avoid. The term "fragrance" or "parfum" on personal-care-product labels can be a cover for hundreds of harmful chemicals known to be carcinogens, endocrine disrupters, and reproductive toxicants, even at low levels.

Better Alternative: Go the unscented route whenever possible, especially with soaps and detergents. Avoid any kind of air freshener or deodorizer, including sprays, gels, solid disks, and oils, suggests Anne Steinemann, PhD, a University of Washington researcher who focuses on fragrances in consumer products. "These products do not clean or disinfect the air, but they do add hazardous chemicals to the air we breathe," she says. Use better ventilation and set out a bowl of baking soda or white vinegar to freshen up a room.

HARSH CLEANING PRODUCTS

The Dirt: Isn't it ironic that we actually contaminate our air when we use harsh chemicals—some of which are known to cause cancer—to "clean" our homes? Ammonia can trigger asthma attacks, and harsh oven cleaners and drain openers can cause respiratory damage or burn the skin of children who come into contact with them.

Better Alternative: Save tons of money by turning to Grandma's homemade cleaning concoctions, including a general cleaning solution of one part white vinegar and nine parts water. This will kill up to 90 percent of bacteria and many spores. Just spray it on and let it dry to a nice shine on its own. The best surprise about distilled white vinegar? You can buy a gallon for less than $2 and make more than 10 gallons of cleaning solution. When you're finished using a vinegar cleaning solution, dump it down your garbage disposal or toilet for bonus odor control.

NONSTICK COOKWARE AND BAKEWARE

The Dirt: Is the convenience of nonstick worth it?. That slick, shiny, enticingly nonstick surface is made from a synthetic material known as perfluoroalkyl acid, a class of chemicals that have been linked to ADHD, high cholesterol, and thyroid disease. They're also potentsperm killers and are suspected of contributing to female infertility.

Better Alternative: Opt for safer cookware like made-in-America cast iron, glass or stainless steel. If you already cook with nonstick pots and pans, replace them with safer choices when you start seeing scratches and chips in the finish.

ROUNDUP READY FOOD

The Dirt: Roundup, the most widely used herbicide in the country, is sprayed on everything from cotton to canola, lawns to golf courses. So it stands to reason that the stuff winds up in our air and water. But when you're eating "Roundup Ready" food, as in, food that's been genetically modified to withstand all those Roundup applications, you're eating it too, according to plant pathologist Don Huber, PhD, professor emeritus at Purdue University. That's problematic because scientists are learning that Roundup affects defensive enzymes our bodies use to keep us healthy. Roundup also reduces a plant's ability to take up vital micronutrients that humans require for survival.

Better Alternative: Corn, soy, and canola are common crops that have been genetically engineered to withstand heavy dousings of Roundup (or other glyphosate-containing chemicals), and foods containing these ingredients tend to contain higher levels of Roundup than other crops do. To avoid genetically engineered (GE) foods and Roundup in your food, buy organic.

VINYL

The Dirt:Some environmental health groups have dubbed vinyl the "poison plastic," due to its harmful production process and its effects on humans. Vinyl is laced with phthalates, chemical plastic softeners linked to hormone disruption, stunted growth, obesity, and other health problems, as well as low IQs.

Better Alternative: When it's time to replace flooring in your home, opt for wood, bamboo, or cork that's Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified or for real linoleum, instead of vinyl. Avoid plastic shower-curtain liners, as well as fake leather furniture, clothing, and accessories, to cut down on phthalate exposure. (Try hemp or organic cotton shower curtains.)

FLAME RETARDANTS

The Dirt: Flame-retardant chemicals can be found in electronics, carpets, carpet padding, and furniture foam. They've been associated with a wide range of health problems, including infertility, thyroid problems, learning disabilities, and hormone disruption. And the exposure to all these potential health threats could be for naught: Added to materials in the event they come in contact with a lit candle or cigarette, the chemicals only delay a fire, and for just a few seconds. When these flame retardants do burn, they release higher levels of carbon monoxide and soot, the two leading causes of fire-related deaths, than non-treated materials.

Better Alternative: When shopping for new furniture, call the manufacturer and ask if it contains flame retardants. If you see a tag that says "complies with California Technical Bulletin 117," avoid bringing home that piece of furniture (California requires all upholstered furniture to be flame retardant, and nearly all furniture sold in the U.S. is made to comply with their law). Take care when selecting electronics, too: Environmental Working Group lists electronics that are free of flame retardants.

CANNED FOOD

The Dirt: Bisphenol A, or BPA, is a hormone-disrupting chemical linked to male infertility, diabetes, heart disease, aggressive behavior in children, and other ills. The chemical is used in some No. 7 plastic bottles and most canned-food containers, and although some manufacturers are phasing the chemical out of their cans, it's not clear that the replacements are totally safe either. In 2010, scientists also discovered that we absorb BPA from cash-register receipts through our skin.

Better Alternative: Opt for fresh or frozen fruits and veggies, and bypass cans as often as possible. Don't store or microwave food or beverages in plastic containers. And say no thanks to receipts for minor purchases like gas and coffee, and at the ATM.

VOCS

The Dirt: Nasty indoor air-polluting culprits, volatile organic compounds, or VOCs, could be trashing your indoor air, especially in the kitchen, the basement, or even the laundry room. (Scented, petroleum-based laundry detergents contain high levels of VOCs.) These hazardous chemicals are linked to asthma and, in some instances, even cancer, and they add to indoor air pollution. Pressed wood and particleboard cabinets and other furniture are big emitters of the VOC (and carcinogen) formaldehyde in the home, too.

Better Alternative: Choose unscented, plant-based detergents, or go old-school and use castile soap or washing soda and borax to clean your clothing. For new paint projects, choose readily available no-VOC paint, and avoid storing paint in your garage or basement—fumes can escape even tightly closed lids and enter your home. Avoid plywood and particleboard when buying new household furnishings, and keep VOCs contained by sealing any plywood or particleboard furniture with a product like AFM Safecoat Safe Seal.

DRY-CLEANING CHEMICALS

The Dirt: Sure, it's convenient to drop your clothing off with a dry cleaner, but the cleaning chemical of choice in this country remains perchloroethylene, also known as PCE, or perc. This chemical is classified a probable carcinogen and is linked to kidney, liver, and central nervous system damage. It's not something you want to wear or have holed up in your home closet. Although many states and cities are phasing out perc, it's still among the most widely used dry-cleaning chemicals.

Better Alternative: You can work around "Dry Clean Only" instructions on clothing tags. You just need to know how to treat different types of fabric.

16 Healthiest Foods to Stock in Your Kitchen Year Around

If you want to live the healthiest life possible then you know that it’s all about the food. Your overall physical health is a direct reflection of what food you are eating and your lifestyle.
Although those processed foods that are pre-packaged are super convenient, no doubt about that, but when you cook from scratch with fresh, organic, unprocessed ingredients, you are ensuring that you are getting the healthiest nutrition possible. One of the most important ways to stay healthy is avoiding those processed foods as much as possible.
This list of 16 specific food items can help to steer you in the right direction. Keep these items in your kitchen at all times and you will always have healthy, base ingredients for your cooking and for snacking.

1. YOGURT AND KEFIR

Cultured dairy products that are made from organic, grass fed cow’s milk are super nutritious so you should always keep these things in stock. You can easily make these things yourself when you have a starter culture. Instead of cow’s milk there is also raw goat or sheep milk as another option. Although yogurt and kefir as both cultured milk products, they have very different types of beneficial bacteria, called probiotics.
The transient beneficial bacteria that yogurt has can keep your digestive system clean while providing “food” for the good bacteria that already live in your gut. Kefir helps to colonize your digestive system, something that yogurt cannot do. The active yeast and bacteria in kefir might provide even more nutritive value than yogurt does because it helps to digest the foods you eat and keep your colon clean. It also has minerals, essential amino acids, and vitamins that will assist your body with its own ability to heal itself.

2. SUNFLOWER SEEDS

Perhaps one of the easiest ways to improve your nutrition is to add sprouted seeds to your salads or to your vegetable juice smoothies. Although it’s easy to sprout a wide variety seeds, sunflower seeds are a great choice because they are easy to find, easy to sprout, and are full of nutrition. You can always eat the seeds themselves, or you can go the sprout route!
Sprouts have more than 30 times the nutrient of the seeds themselves. Sprouts also have important enzymes, as much as 100 times more enzymes than raw fruits and veggies.
Sprouts are perhaps the ultimate locally grown food that you can grow in your own kitchen if you don’t have much yard space. They are also extremely cheap, so price is no excuse for not growing them. There are numerous websites that can give you tips for growing sprouts in jars or small trays along with the nutritional breakdown of all types of different seeds.

3. WHEY PROTEIN

If you live in an area where you cannot obtain raw milk, you can always use a high-quality whey protein (pick one that is minimally processed) that comes from the milk of grass fed, organically raised cows. This way you can receive many of the same great benefits as you can from drinking raw milk. Whey protein has immunoglobulins, and beta-glucans, which are important for the protection of your immune system, as well as supporting your body’s own natural processes for detoxification.
Whey protein is sometimes referred to as the “gold standard” when we are talking about protein. If you consume whey protein 30 minutes after or before your workout, it will help your body to increase both its fat burning as well as muscle building potential. High-quality whey protein has amino acids that activate cellular mechanisms, including one that is called mTOR-14. This mechanism in the body promotes muscle protein synthesis as well as booting the thyroid, and protects against possible declining testosterone levels after intense exercise.

4. ORGANIC PASTURED EGGS

Proteins are essential to the maintenance, building, and repair of the tissues in the body, including your skin, muscles, and internal organs. Proteins are major parts of your body’s immune system and your hormones.
Although protein is found in many types of foods, only foods that come from animal sources, such as eggs and meat, contain complete proteins. This means that they contain all of the essential amino acids that the body needs.
Eggs are true powerhouses of nutrition, provided that they come from organically raised, free-range chickens. The difference between free range chicken eggs and commercially farmed eggs is due to the different diets eaten by these two groups of birds.
How can you tell if your eggs come from free range chickens? By the color of the yolk. Free range chickens have yolks that are bright orange. Dull, pale yellow yolks are a sign of caged hens that are fed an unnatural diet.

5. RAW MILK FROM ORGANIC GRASS FED COWS

Although you may have heard otherwise, pasteurized milk is no safer than raw milk. Research data shows that even illnesses that are linked to raw milk are minimal and lower than those from pasteurized milk. Grass is a cow’s natural food. Corn and grains are not natural. Cows that eat grain, which is what confined animals eat, their entire body composition is altered, and this includes the natural balance of essential fats. Grass-fed cow’s milk contains more than 60 digestive enzymes and immunoglobulins (antibodies), healthy bacteria that are beneficial for your gastrointestinal tract, beneficial raw fats, amino acids, and protein in a highly available, 100 percent digestible form. It also includes vitamins A, B, D, C, E, and K along with a very balanced blend of necessary minerals, which include calcium, phosphorus, iron, and magnesium.
The best way to get raw milk is from a local, organic farm is the best way to ensure that you are getting the high-quality milk your body deserves.

6. BUTTER

Wonderful, old-fashioned butter, made from cows that have a natural grass-fed diet, is super rich in a compound called conjugated linoleic acid or CLA. CLA is well-known for fighting diabetes, cancer, and can possibly help you to lose weight, something that no one can say about those trans-fat substitutes.
Vitamin A is necessary for many functions in your body from keeping your visions sharp to maintaining your endocrine system in its best shape. Butter is a great source of vitamin A that your body can easily absorb. It also has many of the other important vitamins that are fat soluble such as D, E, and K2. Many of these vitamins are lacking in our modern day diets. All natural butter is also rich in the important trace minerals we need like chromium, zinc, copper, manganese, and the powerful antioxidant, selenium.
Check out RealMilk.com7 if you need help finding a source of raw butter. If you like you can always try to make some yourself, there are plenty of step by step instructions and recipes available for making your own butter from scratch using raw, grass-fed milk.

7. CANNED ALASKAN SALMON

Unfortunately, pollution levels are such now that they have contaminated almost all fish to the point that they should be considered hazardous, especially for pregnant women and young children, if they are eaten in large amounts or in frequency. The best way to choose fish today is to pick ones that are high in healthy omega-3 fatty acids but still low in contamination. Wild caught Alaskan salmon, not farmed salmon, work well and is one of the few fish that can still be recommended as safe.
Although frozen fish will stay fresh for quite some time, another safe option is to stock up on canned salmon. Be sure to read the labels and get “Alaskan Salmon.” Salmon from Alaska are not allowed to grow in farms like other types of salmon. Avoid Atlantic salmon as all of these will be farmed salmon. Sockeye salmon is also another good choice as it can’t be farmed so chances are excellent that it’s also wild. You can also look for BPA free options should you choose canned salmon. Other “safe” canned fish are pickled herring, anchovies, and sardines.

8. FERMENTED VEGETABLES

Something most people are not aware of is that your gastrointestinal tract (GI) contains as much as 100 trillion bacteria. They actually outnumber the cells in your body by 2 to 1! If your GI tact is out of whack, many health problems tend to follow including allergies and autoimmune disorders. If you are afflicted with any type of chronic or major illness then it’s imperative that you heal and seal your gut. You need to balance the mixture of microorganisms that live in your GI tract. That is the key to maintaining a healthy and strong and immune system.
Fermented foods are necessary for a healthy GI tract. Just a quarter to a half cup of fermented food eaten along with your three daily meals, can have a dramatic effect on your overall health. Yogurt, kefir, pickles, and sauerkraut are just a few examples of fermented foods. These types of foods are readily available for sale if you like or you can make your own and experiment with different types of vegetables.

9. HIMALAYAN SALT

Salt is essential to life. The human body must have salt in order to survive. However, there are many differences between the highly processed and refined salt that is commonly found in our foods and in table salt, and the unrefined, more natural salt such as sea salt and Himalayan salt. Processed salt can promote damaging health effects while Himalayan salt can assist with many biological processes such as the transport of nutrients to and from the cells of your body, increasing the cells in your brain that are responsible for your long-term planning and creative centers in your brain. It can also help to regulate the body’s blood pressure, supports the function of your adrenal glands, and helps your brain communicate with your muscles so you can move on demand.
Natural salt that is not processed, such as Himalayan salt, is about 85 percent sodium chloride and 15 percent natural trace minerals. There are 84 of them including phosphorus, silicon, and vanadium. After exercising or on hot days, or anytime you find you are sweating profusely, you can make your own healthy “sports” drink and replace those lost electrolytes and minerals by simply mixing a pinch of this healthy salt with the juice of half a lemon in a glass of water.

10. AVOCADOS

Although many people think of these as vegetables, they are actually classified as fruit. Avocados are great as they are low in fructose yet high in those healthy monounsaturated fats, which your body can burn easily for the energy it needs. Research shows that avocados are great for their ability to help the vascular function in the body and are very heart healthy. They are so easy to eat, too, either plain or chopped into salads, or the famous guacamole which you can put on just about anything from sandwiches to meats.
Avocados are high in potassium, too, with more than twice as much as you find in bananas, and this will help to balance that vitally important sodium to potassium ratio. Just one avocado has almost 20 essential nutrients your body needs, including fiber, B vitamins, vitamin E, and folic acid. Besides eating them as they are, you can also use avocado as a fat substitute in recipes that use butter or other types of oil. Avocados are also one of the safest fruits you can buy, even if they are conventionally grown, so you won’t need to spend more money buying organic avocados. Their very thick skins protect the soft inner meat from pesticides.

11. HOMEMADE BROTH

Nothing beats homemade bone broth for speeding healing and when you are recuperating from sickness. Bone broth helps to seal and heal your gastrointestinal tract. It’s full of those healthy fats and important minerals such as phosphorus, silicon, calcium, sulfur, and trace minerals. It also contains the broken down materials from the tendons and cartilage, which means this broth contains glucosamine and chondroitin.
It’s so easy to create your bone broth as well as being extremely cost effective. Simply make use of the leftover carcass bones that might otherwise simply be given to the dogs or thrown out. Bone broth can also be frozen for later use. Just be sure to use bones from animals that were organically raised, grass fed animals, whether it’s beef or chicken. If you aren’t sure about how to make homemade broth, the internet is full of recipes and step by step directions. This is a great way to save money and improve your health all at the same time. So don’t throw out that carcass from Thanksgiving! Make some healthy bone broth!

12. MACADAMIA NUTS AND PECANS

There is mounting research that shows that tree nuts might actually help you live longer while helping you to lose weight. It’s not so surprising, however, when you consider the fact that nuts are very high in the healthy fats that, even though you might have heard otherwise, your body must have in order for it to work properly. The nutritional makeup of nuts very closely matches the ideal ratio of what you might think of the basic building blocks of the body. The fat in nuts can make up for the greatest amount of your daily calories, followed by a moderate amount of protein, then a low amount of non-vegetable carbohydrates.
Macadamia nuts and pecan nuts are highly recommended as they contain the highest amount of healthy fats while staying on the low end when speaking of protein and carbohydrates. Macadamia nuts have a substantial amount (around 60 percent) of monosaturated fat called oleic acid. This is about the same level that is found in olives, which are also well known for their health benefits.

13. RAW GARLIC

Raw garlic should not only be in your kitchen but it should be in your daily diet. Raw garlic improves your body’s own natural abilities to protect you from things like osteoporosis and high blood pressure. Mounting research shows that it decreases your risk of developing certain types of cancer. Raw garlic is also antimicrobial as well. It’s a natural antifungal, antibiotic, antiviral and even anti-parasitic compound! In order to give you the best health benefits, garlic must be fresh. To stimulate the release of an enzyme called alliinase, fresh garlic must be crushed or chopped. Your body will turn alliinase into a sulfenic acid that destroys free radicals quicker than any other any other compound known to man. To activate the medicinal compounds in garlic, squeeze a fresh clove with a spoon just before you swallow it or before you put it in your juice or smoothie. Just one medium or large size clove is sufficient for most people. Read more about
