Trump Approval Ratings Show These States Still Love the President

President Donald Trump’s approval ratings have been poor, often historically so, across the nation. But there remain several states only too happy with the Republican billionaire and the work he’s done since taking office nearly 14 months ago, according to the latest ratings. 

Morning Consult’s national tracking poll showed Monday that Trump is especially beloved in one particularly mountainous state as well as, perhaps unsurprisingly, the deep South. Wyoming showed a 32 percent net approval rating, the difference between approval and disapproval figures, with Alabama next up at 27 percent. Louisiana was third at 23 percent followed by West Virginia (22 percent) and Mississippi (21 percent). 

As of the end of February, many of those states also handed Trump some of his highest approval ratings. Wyoming, again, was out front on 64 percent approval. Alabama came in narrowly behind on 61 percent while a healthy 59 percent of Louisiana residents back the president. 

The results may not be too surprising. Trump claimed each of the aforementioned states in the 2016 presidential election as he rode toward the White House.

The news is far from uniformly positive for the president, however. Trump began his first term in January 2017 with a positive net approval rating in 38 states. But that figure has now been cut to 26 states, with 23 registering a negative net approval rating. Even in Wyoming, Trump's net approval has dropped from 40 percent at the time of his inauguration.

The latest results stemmed from almost 900,000 surveys of all 50 states and Washington D.C., with margins-of-error between one and four percentage points. It is in Washington, which Trump now calls home, where the president is the least popular, with just 16 percent of residents approving of his performance.

Overall, major national polls show Trump hovering around 40 percent approval. The billionaire is currently averaging a 39.8 percent approval rating with 55.5 percent disapproving, according to RealClearPolitics' composite between February 20 and Tuesday. 

Another poll on Wednesday, from Quinnipiac, found that Trump was, by an overwhelming percentage, Americans' choice for the worst president since World War II.
