This is why you should be eating broccoli daily!

Rich in fiber and loaded with nutrients, broccoli is widely hailed (and rightfully so) as one of the healthiest foods on earth.  By regularly consuming broccoli, you can lower your risk of suffering from a variety of debilitating diseases such as Type 2 Diabetes, heart disease, stroke and even cancer.

Recent research now points to Broccoli’s ability to reduce oxidative stress and prostate/breast cancer.  Cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, kale and cabbage contain a very powerful antioxidant/disease fighting compound called sulforaphane.

Sulforaphane has been accredited with the following:
  • Increases liver functionality (cleaning toxins from the body)
  • Triggers production of Phase II enzymes (key for cancer fighting)
  • Boosts cellular defenses.
  • Reduces Oxidative stress due to obesity, pollution and mental stress.
It is clear that there are many reasons to consume broccoli on a regular basis.  However, is there anything better?

Yes, Broccoli Sprouts!

Since Broccoli Sprouts are just begging to grow, they contain high concentrations of vitamins, minerals and amino acids.  Researchers at John Hopkins University, say that 5 grams of broccoli sprouts contain the same amount of sulforaphane as 150 grams of mature broccoli… That means you would have to consume 30 times more broccoli than broccoli sprouts to get the same cancer and age fighting properties as mature broccoli!

Time Magazine published results from a study conducted on Broccoli Sprout Powder’s ability to reduce carcinogens in the body.  The study was conducted on 300 Chinese men and women living in the Jiangsu Provence (one of China’s most polluted areas).
The test group drank a half cup a day of water, pineapple and lime juice with the addition of Broccoli Spout Powder and the control group drank the same mixture without the Broccoli Sprout Powder. Urine was tested from both groups and it was determined that those taking Broccoli Sprout Powder excreted two key carcinogens at much greater levels than the control group.  The researchers found that excretion of Benzine (a pollutant found in car exhaust and soda) increased by 61% and acrolein (a pollutant also found in car exhaust and cigarette smoke) excretion was increased by 23%.
If you are living in a large city or highly polluted area, try adding Broccoli Sprouts to your diet in order to reduce pollutant levels in your body!

  1. Should not the contraindication of its tending to engender gall-stones be mentioned ? Or have I misremembered ?
